Colin McRae: Dirt 2 Benchmark Video [DirectX 11]

This is a video of a Benchmark with DirectX 11 mode on a Radeon HD 5970 done with the demo of the game Dirt 2 on a high-end PC just to see what you can expect to get from the game running with high level of detail… It seems that DX 11 support does not provide significantly noticeable difference while racing with high speed in the game, although there re visible difference that can be noticed with a closer inspection. The Benchmark Result is from AMD Athlon II @ 2,6 GHz, ATI Radeon HD 5970, 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz, Windows 7 Professional system running Dirt 2 in 1680×1050 Resolution, Ultra Quality Preset, No Multisampling. The resulting framerate is 45,4 FPS Average (frames per second) which is quite low considering the video card being used, but it is normal considering that we are using DirectX 11 with all the additional details enabled…

Dirt 2 – DirectX 9 vs DirectX 11 Split Screen Benchmark

Here is a split screen video of the game Dirt 2 done with a DirectX 9 (GeForce GTX 275) and DirectX 11 (Radeon HD 5970)… notice that the Benchmark is not the same on the left and on the right side. This is because there are a lot of different things changed in each run of the benchmark, so it is hard to get the exact same race repeated twice. Anyway, you can also notice that there is not much of a noticeable difference when using DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 renderer in the game… anyway take a closer look on the people around the track, the water on the road, the waving cloth and the shadows. Dirt 2 is just another disappointment after STALKER: Call of Pripyat. Colin McRae: Dirt 2 is also not the killer DirectX 11 game a lot of people are waiting for!

STALKER: Call of Pripyat – DirectX 10 vs DirectX 11

Here are videos from the four demos from the benchmark of the game STALKER: Call of Pripyat in split screen mode, running in DirectX 10 mode on the left and with DirectX 11 on the right. The right part with DX11 also has Tessellation and Contact Hardening Shadows enabled, but there is hardly any difference visible in the fast running flybys in the benchmark. Hell, even when playing not only STALKER, but any other fast paced FPS game you probably won’t notice much of a difference simply because you won’t have enough time to inspect at shadows of objects or to look your surroundings in detail. DirectX 11 should be offering faster performance, but with tessellation and CHS enabled actually there is a performance drop (with hardly any visible difference), as you can see in the results, compared with the game running in DX10. BTW the test system was equipped with Radeon HD 5970 video card and a quad core Intel Core i5 CPU, but still the benchmark (in Ultra quality mode and 1680×1050 resolution!) has some moments with framerate of about 30-40 frames per second. stal
